As a school, our focus for the year is based upon the scripture Matthew 5:16, "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven." Every day in second grade, we are working to SHINE for Jesus!

The Scoop on Learning
During both Guided Reading and Reader's Workshop, readers are learning to decode, or figure out, words that are unfamiliar using a variety of strategies. These include using picture clues, looking at the beginning sound, finding smaller words we know inside the larger word, sounding the word out, and skipping the word, reading on, and then going back. We are also reviewing consonant digraphs, or two letters that make one unique sound. In addition, we are working with the characters, setting, problem and solution of the stories we read.
In Math, students are continually working with time and money. We are also working on double facts, problem solving, and fact families.
Seeing that Christmas is upon us, we are talking about the birth of Jesus during Religion.
