Welcome to Second Grade!
As a school, our focus for the year is based upon the scripture Matthew 5:16, "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven." Every day in second grade, we are working to SHINE for Jesus!

Spring into Learning
Students have now learned all the tools, or strategies to figure out unknown words, in our toolbox. We will continue to use these throughout the year!! We are now moving into our Retelling unit. During Guided Reading and Reader's Workshop, students will work on finding important details, sequencing, summarizing, and story maps.
In Math, students are continually working with time and money. We are also working on place value.
In Writer's Workshop, we have begun our Word Choice unit. Students are working to include "juicy" words in their writing. In February, students were introduced to our Author Share Chair. During this time, each student sits in our special author chair and shares a piece of their writing with the class! Soon, we will be moving into our Revision unit in which students will be self editing and peer editing.
As Easter comes upon us, we will be discussing the stories leading up to Jesus Resurrection.
