 Welcome to Physical Education!

"CUS students are traveling across America. How far can we go?"

Have you been in the gym lately and checked out all of the shoes and miles we are racking up? Each grade has a different color shoe and we try hard to take the time and add up all the steps on our pedometers and convert them to miles. So far, 4th grade has had the most opportunities to count up their steps and earn the most shoes. Some classes have well over 100 miles together. This is great for our fitness levels and to help us stay healthy. Keep moving in PE to earn those steps!

Has your child been talking about playing tennis in PE? We have a wonderful volunteer tennis teacher who comes in once a week to help us improve our tennis game. She brings all of the equipment we need to play. In February, we will be selling her Valentine cookies to raise money for the ALS foundation, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. It is a wonderful community service project. Please support your children and buy a cookie!

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART is coming soon! CUS students will have a marathon jumping day on Tuesday, March 2nd. I am looking for parent volunteers to supervise and help the day run smoothly. 4K-3rd will be jumping in the morning, and 4-8th will be jumping in the afternoon. Please let me know if you are able to help. In February, look for your child to bring home a fund raising packet. All money raised goes to the American Heart Association to help fight heart disease.

Looking Ahead.....

Children in grades 4K-1 will be focusing on many new things throughout the winter months. Catching, throwing, rolling, bowling, just to name a few. Please make sure that your child has extra tennis shoes at school as slippery socks can be dangerous in the gym. If you send your child to school in boots, send along a pair of shoes. Thanks!

Children in grades 2-3 will be working on tennis, throwing, striking, and gymnastics skills over the winter months. Be ready for some tumbling, hitting, throwing like a pro, and a few fun tennis games as well. Please remember to have a pair of tennis shoes along for physical education class.

Children in grades 4-5 have just finished a great flag football unit. We worked on throwing, catching, ripping off flags, playing defense, offense, taking turns at quarterback and center, and being receivers. The kids did a great job learning new skills and strategies with this unfamiliar unit. For the next few months, fourth and fifth graders will be working on hockey, tennis, basketball, and gymnastics. I can't wait!

Middle school students have done a great job thus far making the transition into physical education class. At least once a week we track our number of pedometer steps that we have taken and record them in our physical education folder. We have also been working on flag football and completed a soccer unit earlier in the year. Your students should now be familiar with the game of football and how downs work, what the line of scrimmage is, how to throw properly, and how to play fairly on a team. They did a great job with this unit!

Volleyball is quickly approaching for our middle school girls. I am in need of a responsible, adult coach to have practice 2 times a week and attend games once a week. Please contact me if you are interested in this volunteer position. Thanks!
