 Reading Is Thinking

Reading is Thinking

Good readers use thinking strategies while they read.

As a Good Reader You:

 Predict:

What will this story be about? What will happen next?

Visualize:

Make a movie in your head. What do I see in my mind as I read this part of story?

Question:

Think about the story, asking yourself who, when, where, why, and how?

Clarify:

Can I read all the words? Use strategies to read tricky words:

·        Beginning Sounds

·        Ending sounds

·        Pictures clues

·        Chunk the word

·        Look for smaller word within bigger word

·        Blank the word and reread the sentence

Connect:

Use what you know about other stories, people, and

places to help you relate to the story.

Summarize:

Think of the story like this:

  • Someone did something
  • But, (there was a problem)
  • Then (The problem was solved)
  • Finally (what happened at the end?)

Synthesize:

 The ripple effect:

My thinking changes with new information and the meaning becomes bigger and bigger.
