The 7th and 8th grade students have begun reading Gifted Hands. It is very fitting to begin reding this text at this point in the year, as it is Black History Month. This book is written by, and about, Ben Carson, a highly successful African American neurosurgeon. They will be given a study guide for each chapter of this book.
The 5th and 6th graders are reading The Hobbit. This is a story full of adventure, activity, and imaginary characters. The students will be given a study guide for each chapter of this text.
All grade levels continue to work at building their vocabulary and spelling skills through the use of Wordly Wise.
Please make sure to talk to me about any missing work you may have. If a student is absent, he or she needs to make sure to take care of any work he or she missed in class.

Hello! I'm Miss Schaefer! I teach English to 5th through 8th grade. I also teach 5th and 6th grade religion as well. I look forward to instilling an appreciation for reading texts carefully in order to understand how to connect to and learn from them.
