First Grade

Monthly Lesson

 

Our Theme this month is Our Earth:

Reading Strategies: will be decoding; summarizing, predicting & infering, and phonics decoding. We are working on building schema this month.  

Comprehension:  we will be working on categorize / classify; topic sentences, main idea, details / summarize; drawing conclusions.

Phonics lessons: we will be on base words and ending (s, ed, ing); Vowel paris ou, ow (/ou/) 

Grammer lessons: we will focus on naming words for people, animals, things, places; naming words for one or more as well.

Writing lessons: we will work on writing informational paragraphs; writing with action words; process writing: research reports.  We will be using fancy words in our writing as well.

Vocabulary work: we will be compound words; nature words; science words; color and pattern words; homophones; words that describe things.  

 Listening skill focus: we will focus on  dramatizing a story, monitoring understanding and retelling.

Information and study skills: we will be working on  using reference resources; locationg information and organizing information.

My name is Trenae  Howard and I have been teaching at Concordia University School for four years. I attended Concordia University College where I obtained my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. I look forward to another exciting year at Concordia University School.
