Grammar 5th-8th

Weekly Lessons

The middle school students are continuing to work hard during the last term of the school year.  Continue to encourage your child to do his or her very best every day.  Also, please contact me with any questions or concerns you might have.

The students in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade have just started a unit on research paper writing.  The students are working through the research paper writing process from start to finish for the remainder of the school year.  Students are learning how to create and use source cards, how to cite their sources within a paper, how to take effective notes, how to find accurate and useful resources and how to write in a professional manner.  The students are learning that this process is not easy at times, but takes a lot of effort and hard work.  All students will achieve success when we are done with this unit of writing and will have new skills that they will take on to high school and college.

Throughout the research writing process, students will continue to gain Grammar knowledge.  Topics that will be covered for the remainder of the year include: sentence structure, conjunctions, interjections, punctuation and capitalization.

Ask your Middle School student what they have been learning in Grammar class.  They are working so hard and would love to share this knowledge with you!

Teacher Information

My name is Sarah Mertz and I am the seventh grade homeroom teacher and middle school Grammar teacher and 7th and 8th grade Religion teacher. I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Concordia University Wisconsin. I am also currently working on finishing my Master's degree this spring in Education at Concordia University Wisconsin.  I began my teaching ministry in Arizona in 2008 and returned to the Milwaukee area in 2010 when I started at Concordia University School as an aide in second grade and became a part time teacher in third grade. Last year, I also taught middle school grammar and am excited to be a part of the middle school team at Concordia University School again this year!
