Mrs. Trenae Howard, Principal
Concordia University School - Granville Campus
When you enter Concordia University School you are greeted with the message written in Matthew 5:16: "Let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven." It's the verse we live by at Concordia University School; we SHINE for Jesus daily in our classrooms by Sitting tall, having our Hands and feet still, Involving ourselves, Never giving up and keeping our Eyes on task.
At Concordia University School, we focus on the social, spiritual, and academic development of our students. Our school culture is centered on high academic achievement featuring careful instruction and a curriculum based on research, best practices and rigorous academic standards. We have dedicated, knowledgeable, skillful educators, including five teachers with Master’s Degrees in education, who teach, guide and inspire students to excel and focus on building strong personal relationships.
Increased instructional time during the school day in reading and math help create an atmosphere that emphasizes rigor and high standards. We train students to become independent readers by grade three, using whole group, small group and individualized instruction.
We focus on high-order thinking in mathematics. We use a program that introduces concepts in a variety of ways, allowing students to make sense of math and not just rely on memorization. We also use games, direct instruction, small group instruction and homework assignments to help our students achieve high standards.
A distinguishing factor of our academic program is the expert use of literacy and mathematics assessments to measure students’ progress, and to tailor instruction and supports to enable all students to reach higher levels of achievement. We monitor student progress using a variety of assessments to ensure all students are achieving at desirable levels.
We not only develop our children academically and socially but also spiritually. Prayer and religious instruction are part of our daily classroom experience. We meet for weekly chapel where we unite as a Christian community to praise the Lord.
Concordia University School boasts eight new classrooms constructed in 2008. Every classroom is equipped with computers, flat screens and several rooms have SMART boards. At Concordia University School, we believe technology is necessary to prepare our students for the 21st century.
Concordia University School is operated by LUMIN, a Lutheran Urban Mission Initiative bringing safe, high-quality education to choice schools in the city of Milwaukee. Additionally, Concordia University Wisconsin provides opportunities for continued professional development at our school. We invite you to visit Concordia University School, where rigor, innovation and Christian values go hand in hand to provide a superior Christian education. We believe there is nothing more important to society than educating our children in Christ.
